Spectrum Los Angeles: An LGBTQ Community Hub

Welcome to Spectrum Los Angeles, a new online hub for the LGBTQ community in L.A.! This site is meant to be a friendly, welcoming space for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or ally. It’s also a guide to the queer community in the greater Los Angeles area.

Why Spectrum? Because I want this site to be inclusive and welcoming and to reflect the diversity of the community; from genderqueer and questioning to pansexual and polyamorous, all facets of the queer community will be reflected.

Turn to Spectrum Los Angeles for feature stories about LGBTQ social groups and nonprofit organizations, for interviews with interesting LGBTQ people—and for a place to connect with your community.

From Pasadena to Santa Monica, from Long Beach to the San Fernando Valley, L. A. is a richly diverse city that is home to a great number of LGBTQ activists, queer movers and shakers, and dynamic social groups. Whether you are interested in hiking or biking, in singing or crafting, in book clubs or nightclubs, you can find your niche or broaden your horizons here.

During the five years that I worked at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center—the largest LGBT organization in the world—I had the opportunity to get to know many remarkable people and interviewed many of them for the Center’s monthly newsletter, Vanguard. Now I am excited to share some of their stories here.

With Spectrum Los Angeles, I hope to create an inclusive space for connection and discussion where the diverse and vibrant threads of L.A.’s queer community will weave a rich online tapestry. Whether you are new to L.A., a lifetime Angeleno or somewhere in between, I hope that this site will be a valuable tool in helping you connect with your community.

Please bookmark SpectrumLosAngeles.com and visit regularly. In addition to the homepage, check out the calendar, where I will be posting information about exciting community events. You can also follow Spectrum Los Angeles on Facebook at and on Twitter.

If you would like to submit LGBT community events for the calendar or if you have suggestions for groups or people to profile, please email me at spectrumlosangeles@gmail.com.
